Jobs to do in Winter
General
Check over any stored crops for sign of mould, pest damage and regrowth.
Clean all tools, wiping off any soil residue and sharpening edges as needed, for storing over winter. Brush any soil off canes and supports before storing.
Winter pruning of fruit can take place later in winter. For example, autumn fruiting raspberries canes can be cut. Fruited stems from summer fruiting raspberries can be removed and some older stems from blackcurrant bushes can be trimmed back. Fruit bushes benefit from a top dressing or mulch.
Sowing
Sowing options are more limited with Penistone's climate, unless sown under glass or heated propagator. Seed potatoes can be laid out for chitting in late winter.
Harvesting
Possible crops to harvest include Brussels sprouts, winter cabbages, kale, leeks, parsnips and the early sprouting broccoli.
